5G RedCap (Reduced Capability) – Delivering Right-Sized Performance for Mid-Tier IoT

As 5G continues its massive rollout, many mid-tier 4G LTE application users are looking at how to capitalize on 5G’s advantages. But for less demanding applications in industrial IoT, surveillance and wearables, current 5G modules use too much power and are too costly.

Enter 5G RedCap. 5G RedCap (Reduced Capability) devices are positioned to help OEMs currently using 4G LTE CAT1 to CAT 4 devices. These OEMs need more capabilities than devices for mMTC (Massive Machine Type Communications), but less capabilities than eMBB (Enhanced Mobile Broadband) devices.
